Scottsdale sits at the center of it all. Within 30 minutes you're in the desert wilderness. Within 90 minutes you're in Sedona's red rock country. Planning Your Slingshot Adventure
Best Season
October through April offers ideal temperatures — 60–80°F days, clear skies, and low humidity. Summer (June–September) is possible with early starts; avoid midday heat above 105°F.
Fuel Up Before You Go
The Slingshot holds about 9.5 gallons and gets roughly 30 mpg on the highway. Always use premium unleaded — 91 octane or higher. Fill up in Scottsdale before departure; most routes have fuel stops along the way.
Gear for Open-Air Driving
Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat are essential. The Slingshot has no roof — UV exposure is real. A light jacket handles morning chill on mountain routes even in spring.
Start Early
Most Arizona scenic drives are best in the first half of the day — better light for photography, cooler temperatures, and less traffic on popular routes like Sedona and Saguaro Lake.
Cell Coverage
Most routes have reliable coverage. Download offline maps before you leave as a backup. Let someone know your route if you're heading into more remote areas.
Rental Duration
Half-day routes (Fountain Hills, Saguaro Lake): 4-hour minimum. Full-day routes (Sedona): book a full day. Multi-destination weekends: 2-day rental.
